Dina now she has returned from her world tour and her move is nearly over in Mumbai (Bombay to all of us who don't live there) is calling us to action to package and sell social software. By the way Dina, we are bereft that you had such a good time with all those Americans and Brits and you were not here with us. Next year!!!!
I wonder. Can you package and sell a tool that will destroy the command and control system to the command and control system?
This has not been my experience. I have experienced a lot of chat about its value but also a lot of resistance. It's ironic. If you do a consulting scan of any traditional organization you will find that poor communications is in the top 3 items to be fixed. You will also find that workload is in the same top 3. The fixes that will get attention - do better on spin. We are not communicating well enough because we don't craft the message cleverly enough. "Why don't they look at the glitzy intranet?" "Let's start a news letter?" "Let's have more posters." What they don't want is to give people a voice. They don't want people talking to each other. Or heavens forbid to outsiders. "All our great secrets will be stolen. People will find out what a bad job we are doing"
Can you package or sell a product that will overthrow this system? They will never buy. So what do we do Dina? I think of disease or Homer. True viral marketing where we infect part of the system with a small virus that slips in under the immune system. Or Homerically we find a larger unit and describe blogging in non threatening terms so that the Trojans drag the horse inside their own walls.
How are you doing on the virus/Trojan Horse front?
