More on the new business model for public media - Culture and how to shape the right one

So what is the most important aspect of any organization shifting from a top down approach to a real network or wirearchy?

My friends and I at KETC have had to had a answer to this question - we have to report back to the system as how best to do this.

I think I have found a metaphor that describes what KETC has done that has really worked. Worked in that KETC now operates as an organization as a Trusted Space. They have made the shift to "Wirearchy".

The working definition of Wirearchy is: a dynamic two-way flow of power and authority, based on knowledge, trust, credibility and a focus on results, enabled by interconnected people and technology.

The metaphor popped out this weekend as I watched the Olympics. It is the discipline of how a rowing 8 is run. As a boy I used to row in an 8 myself.

The irony as I worked this through was that the answer suggests that the managerial process that drives freedom and participation is much more disciplined than the usual norms.

Here is my post on Fast Forward.
