In 1933, business linked up with the working class in Germany to vote in a era. Humiliated by the loss of face in 1918 and hurt by the loss of the value of the money by the great inflation. Germans had to find an external and an internal enemy to blame. On the other hand they also had to find an icon who could help them regain their lost lustre and place in the world.
Thought died. Books were burnt. Science was denied. Only doctrine was allowed and only the official doctrine. Extreme nationalism and racism emerged.
Did this happen yesterday? Can we expect a search for enemies both outside and inside. Might the Jews be seen once again as a group of liberal traitors who control the liberal parts of the country and who must then be conspiring to destroy America. Can we see America begin a series of more pre-emptive strikes against foreign enemies. Can we see some kind of axis of tyranny emerge made up of America, Russia and China who all share this fear of the enemy and the internal traitor?
