In the last 6 months, I have felt a growing murmur in the Blogosphere: that we are indeed on the brink of a new way of thinking about how society works and that the power of social software may have the type of effect as the press did in the 16th century in spreading the word.
I say this because, I am feeling myself the tentacles of the inquisition. I see that others too have felt the heat of the fire.
My response will be to set up a new site in January where I and a few others will showcase both the new and the efforts of the old to squash the new. It is my hope that the more light we shed on those who are the"Luthers" of our time the more we protect them and the more we strengthen the underlying message that we can build a new business culture that serves mankind and all life.
I am working on an introduction for this site. here is my first attempt. Please tell me how I can sharpen this.
500 years ago a small group of people could not sit quiet while the great cultural institution of the day fell into self-serving and corruption. This small group tried at first to reform from within but could not. They instead offered Western Europe a new vision. You could talk to God directly, your actions and not destiny drove your life and your salvation, and you could act with others to build and protect your community. You no longer needed an institution to broker these relationships.
The press gave this movement the power to overcome the determined reaction of the prevailing power. The press gave men and women their voice for the first time since the Agora in Athens.
Our business culture is a great grandchild of this revolution. Born as a force for freedom and democracy, born to support ideas based in observation, over time it has become what it replaced.
The great wheel of time has come full circle. Once again a small group of people have given up their attempts of internal reform. Once again, they look to how business can serve mankind and not a few men. Once again they seek to replace the institution with direct relationships between men and women. Once again, they seek to replace dogma with the observed design and ways of nature.
Once again a new technology for communication has arrived to aid this group to spread the word. Once again, the voice of people is being heard around the world and those that control the media, like those that controlled the pulpits and the church lists of approved texts, tremble.
This site is dedicated to spreading the word. Welcome.
