The NYT reports today that the very authoritarian leader at Los Alamos has been forced out by a concerted campaign of blogging by staff. Link by Jeff Jarvis.
Jeff makes the point that the issue is not "Blogging" but strong democratic forces that are breaking out everywhere and which are being supported by Blogging. if you are a tyrant - it will no longer be a secret. The issue in Calgary with the Police Chief is also not about blogging while there is a blog at the centre of the fuss - it is about him. We see this also with the approval process for Bolton and the UN. People are being public about how bad this type of bullying is.
Much of the issue about blogging and the corporation will revolve about the culture. No one will be able to control blogging now. The issue for leaders is will they behave in a way that is socially acceptable. The same is true for marketing. The issue will be how good is your product or your service. Blogging will expose lies in marketing as it will expose an authoritarian culture.
It was easy to be a tyrant as a national leader - now the transparency of the global media makes that hard to keep secret. It has been very easy to be an ogre at work too. Now with the access to blogging this will be hard as well.
The underlying issue again is not that blogging is bad it is that this type of behaviour will now increasingly be outed.
