As I read this article in the Times this Sunday, I was struck by the underlying idea. Boeing are engaged in a life or death struggle to regain dominance. To do this, they redefine the flying experience both for the passenger and the airline. To pull this off they in effect use Open Source and not only out source the manufacturing, including the wings, but outsource the development and funding of the components.
Complexity - are we not reaching a point of complexity where this model has to be applied generally? In Public Radio is there any realistic alternative to such an approach to building for instance a common back end?
