Here I am - it is 9.30am. I am in my kitchen, wearing shorts and a tee. I am blogging at the kitchen table. In a few minutes the dogs and I will set out for our daily morning walk. Tomorrow I go to a meeting to talk about a pitch. Until July I have been working very hard for NPR. I have no project ahead of me right now but I have 12 years of experience that the right work will appear at the right time. I have been free of a job and all the oppresion that comes with it for 12 years.
I used to think that we could change the culture of organizations. But now I dont'. I think that as more of us choose to leave, we will starve them to death. As Solidarity built a parallel world in Poland, so we can build a better world as an alternative to corporate life - then one day, it will be irrlevant. Our schools will be better. Our economy will be better. Our approach to health will be better etc.
But this demands that we leave. But I can't do this, you may say. I have kids and a mortage. But you can. Maybe you need a lot of help? Maybe you also need a community of help?
Kathy Sierra has linked today to a great resource site for those of you that want to make this choice for freedom but who need some help. Here is a picture of Pamela Slim. Pamela is putting together a practical guide to taking the steps to freedom. What I and Kathy found very inspirational though is this short video - A Declaration of Independence
I wish all of you who seek freedom well. Remember folks freedom and independence begin inside of us. Mandela was in prison but he remained free inside of himself.
