Facebook is bursting out of its beginings - one of the areas that it will have a major influence is in politics.
Here are a couple of examples:
- Cynthia Dunsford has a political blog where she talks about her days in the field - rare for most politicians - and a group on Facebook. The action is on Facebook. Here you see her engaging in a real debate not only with supporters but with those that have issues. A good debate is opening up about the Liberal Attack ads. So Cyn is going door to door in her district but on Facebook she is going toe to toe in public - This is brave and also soon may be the only way.
- John Godfrey in Ottawa has just begun a page on Facebook. John is a rarity in federal politics in that he is and remains a conviction politician. I can see how Facebook will assist him in building a much stronger constituency.
Facebook is no longer just a place for kids to hang out in. It will become an important part of how democracy is enacted. If you are running for office - have a look and get a toe in the water.
