The fact is, the female breadwinner demographic is increasing to the extent that it will soon be a cliché. A recent U.S. report showed that in 2007, women were the primary earners in 22 per cent of families, up from 4 per cent in 1970. In Canada, the trend has been roughly the same, and even hit a high of 29 per cent in 2003.
About 10,000 years ago there was an economic crisis that for a while toppled men. We discovered that we had over hunted the big game. Power shifted to the Gatherers. The Goddess reigned supreme in horticulture society. The King was chosen, lived in bliss for a year and was sacrificed to appease the Goddess and to fertilize the fields.
We lived in the garden for real.
This must have bene a huge blow to men - are we not seeing this happen again?
At my university more than 70% of the graduates are women. My experience of teaching there is that more than 70% of the best students are women. My current experience in the workplace is that most of the best younger workers are women.
It is no surprise that most men will have to find a woman who earns more than they. It is also no surprise that many women my kids age find that thee pool of men out there are rather pathetic and prefer their cats.
Why do you think that men have given up?
