Some times we need a picture to "see" what is going on. While our schools try to get better, the context of what better is is changing. While schools say they are student focused, they are in effect school focused. Most of also still believe that it is the job of the school to teach us.
But as this infographic shows us - more and more the student is making herself the centre. Learning is becoming individually focused. This shift of gravity is the effect of the web. We see it in all sectors. The individual and the community are taking their power and responisbility.
So in this context - what for our schools on PEI? Surely at first we need to accept that this trend is THE trend and not a sideshow.
Then we can ask ourselves - what does this mean? Then what can we do build it it into where we are right now? How do these resources help the students who are today disengaged? How do these resources help the school system itself as enrollment falls in rural areas? How do we help students discover the riches out there - where the world's best teachers teach the best material in the most accessible way?
