I think that this is the best metaphor I have yet seen that describes the process for innovation - why it is not possible to change the whole system as one.
What I have learned in Public TV is that if we did this in one station, then that station then becomes the point of the pencil - over time it covers off back to the "Woulds" - then the rest start to follow.
So if we are to change education - we have to start with one school and make it the Point School.
Big change happens quite fast this way too. At the Nine Network, we began in 2006. They are 75% of the way and have attracted a Tipping Point group of other stations to do the same.
It will be faster now that much of what will be done is now already known. Back in 2006, it was all brand new.
