Surely Doctors cannot be replaced by a computer? Surely training to be a Dr is safe? No it isn't.
You won't need them soon and the alternative will be better and cheaper.
"Applying the same technology used for voice recognition and credit card fraud detection to medical treatments could cut healthcare costs and improve patient outcomes by almost 50%, according to new research. Scientists at Indiana University found that using patient data with machine-learning algorithms can drastically improve both the cost and quality of healthcare through simulation modeling. The artificial intelligence models used for diagnosing and treating patients obtained a 30% to 35% increase in positive patient outcomes, the research found. This is not the first time AI has been used to diagnose and suggest treatments. Last year, IBM announced that its Watson supercomputer would be used in evaluating evidence-based cancer treatment options for physicians, driving the decision-making process down to a matter of seconds."
What is a doctor visit like today? After waiting for an hour after your appointment, you gat 10 minutes and get a prescription. What does she really know about you? She has no data and only paper files.
Soon you will maintain a personal data base and have a computer help you stay well. You will likely then go to a health coach to help you make lifestyle changes. You may belong to a community of self help too. All this will cost a fratction of the current system AND it will be so much better.
There will be doctors. But not many of them. A massive disruption is on its way.
My new book - out in March - You Don't Need Medicine to Get Healthy - will tell you more.
