You are right on the money about what PEI already means to some of us. I have been going to the Island since I was a little boy. My parents live there for 4 months of every year and we visit each summer. I go for the peace I inevitably feel when I arrive and which endures throughout each visit. The slow pace, the beauty of nature everywhere, the friendly people are what makes PEI magical to me and my family.

You don't need to, nor should you want to, compete with Disney World. Those of us who love the Island do so precisely because it is not Disneyland. We come to PEI to slow down, relax, enjoy simple pleasures and be closer to nature. That is what you should be promoting. I believe the world is full of people looking for exactly this experience. Now more than ever!

Isn't that sort of retreat from the hurley-burley of the modern world
into a slow-moving natural world with friendly people, part of the appeal of Anne of Green Gables? And what all your Japanese visitors come for.

I also have a lovely spot here that I rent in the summer - my renters come to unwind and PEI can help you do that more than any place I know. I think that the main appeal though for the Japanese young women that come is the Spirit of Ann - an individual in a rigid society. The irony of Ann of Green Gables is that she takes on the worst parts of tight communities and by determination and by love melts it - I find that many Islanders don't notice the implicit criticism in the book
